Armed Robbery Reported in Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. - Two similar armed robberies were reported in both Harrison and Mamaroneck Thursday night, both of which involved Metro North commuters walking home and likely the same suspect, police said.

The Harrison armed robbery was reported on Willets Road Thursday night and police said the suspect might be related to a similar incident in Mamaroneck on the same night. In both cases, the male suspect followed his commuter victims as they walked away from their respective train stations.

The suspect has not yet been apprehended.

According to police, the man attacked his victims from behind while carrying a small handgun. In the Harrison incident, the suspect struck his victim in the back of the head before the robbery, police said.

Police described the suspect as roughly 5'10", 180 to 200 pounds. He was also described to have been wearing a blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt and a light bandana as a mask.

The Harrison robbery was reported shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday night. After the robbery, police said the victim alerted a neighbor nearby, who called the police. There were no serious losses reported from the incident.

Police said the victim was not severely injured.

A similar robbery in Mamaroneck occurred close to an hour earlier, police said, at the Mamaroneck train station. The victim, a 59-year-old man, was walking home when a masked man approached him with a handgun on Stanley Avenue, police said. The suspect left the scene immediately after the robbery, police said, and no one was injured.

Harrison Police said the suspect fit the same description as described in the Mamaroneck armed robbery, which occurred the same evening.

Harrison and Rye police were on the scene alongside the Westchester police aviation unit Thursday night.
