Firefighters worked for more than an hour to rescue a female hiker from the Blue Trail near Anthony's Nose at Bear Mountain Bridge after she fell and twisted her ankle.

The incident took place around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday when the woman injured herself preventing her from hiking back down the trail, said Continental Village Fire Chief Tom Radocaj.

Working with Peekskill EMS, New York State Park Police, State Police and Cortlandt VAC, the group was able to strap the woman to a skid and carry her down the mountain to a staging area near the toll house on Bear Mountain Bridge Road, he added.

The unidentified woman was then transported to the hospital.

The chief said compared to their last rescue from Anthony's Nose on Oct. 22, when a man had a heart attack and his department worked to save the man's life with a mobile heart monitor while transporting him down the trail to an awaiting helicopter, Tuesday's save was "simple."

"We wish they could all be like today's event," he added.

The man who was saved keeps in weekly touch with the department, the chief added.

"We plan a big get together with him in the near future along with all the departments that helped in his rescue," Radocaj said.

No one was injured during Tuesday's rescue.
