HARRISON, N.Y. Harrison High School is prepping for its trip to Chicago to perform in the Heritage Music Festival. A fundraiser organized by the Harrison Chorus Parents Association was just another stepping stone in securing the annual trip and was deemed a success by the school.
"The Harrison community is fortunate to have a board of education, a superintendent and administration who value and support the arts, said Louis M. Klein Middle School Teacher and performer Cris Spinner. The teachers are passionate about what they do and provide a very collaborative environment for the students to work in.
A fundraiser was organized earlier in the week by the school's Harrison High School Chorus Parents Association in collaboration with high school music teacher Lynn Fusco to help raise money for the program. The Feb. 11 Open Microphone Night was held at Mulberry Street in White Plains and benefited the high school music department's Chicago trip.
Highlighted performers included faculty members from throughout the district and Harrison High School students and alumni. Several acts were collaborative efforts from students and teachers, allowing the two to work together in ways they rarely have before.
The night also featured a live auction hosted by Harrison senior Cameron Ganis, who also performed a song during the event.
Performances ranged through several musical genres from classical to contemporary. Faculty performers included Charlie Bennett, Linda Finegan, Lynn Fusco, Alanna Mackey, Fred Pasqua, Jim Pyle, Regina Singel, Cris Spinner and Debbie Toteda. Student performers included Marwan Bishtawi, Emma Camillone, Jenna Clemens, Elizabeth Crozier, Sarah Curtis, Jackie Dalfonso, Cameron Ganis, Miwa Kawachimaru, Tori Lovallo, Kyle Lefkowitz, Halle Mastroberardino, James Nitis, Adrianna Nocco and Cayla Pettinato, Mikie Sakanaka, and high school alumnus Mack Rosenberg.
