Guilty Plea in SUNY Purchase Dorm Rape

A White Plains man pleaded guilty to the rape and burglary charges he accrued after forcing himself on a female student in her SUNY Purchase dorm room last November, according to a press release from the Westchester County District Attorney.

Dante Beamon, 26, pled guilty to two felonies: one count of attempted rape in the first-degree and one count of burglary in the second-degree. He will face up to 15 years in state prison at his August 2 sentencing date.

According to Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore, Beamon entered the bedroom area of a Purchase dorm at about 1:30 a.m. on November 13, 2010. He then demanded that the student remove her clothing and told her they were going to have sex.

The student repeatedly asked Beamon to leave. He responded by strangling her with a piece of clothing, which initiated a struggle. The student escaped and sought help.

University, Harrison, and Rye police officers collaborated to track down and arrest Beamont on the Purchase campus in Harrison.

Beamon, who lives at 105 Juniper Hill Road in White Plains, was then brought to Westchester County Jail.
