HARRISON, N.Y. -- Halstead Avenue's Rue Des Crepes was swarming with activity on Tuesday when HBO moved in to shoot parts of the upcoming comedy series "Girls." The shoot was one part of a four-day Harrison venture and was brought in to replicate the area's "small town feel," producers said.
Cars driving along Halstead saw a large production tent outside the restaurant with trucks of equipment surrounding the area. Harrison police were also on the scene overseeing the traffic.
Police said that HBO paid for assistance with the traffic and would not affect local traffic patterns during their stay.
The various Harrison scenes will be portrayed in the series as taking place near Michigan State University.
HBO had their large crew travel to Harrison from various locations to film the scenes in town. Crew members were given rooms at Harrison's Marriott Renaissance hotel.
Jared Mayer is from New Rochelle and was one of the many extras being used for the restaurant scene.
"It's an exciting thing to be a part of," Mayer said.
Mayer said he participated as an extra for various other shoots including scenes from "Men In Black III" and "Royal Pains." The student of Queens College said acting wasn't his top priority, but he would cherish the opportunity if it arose.
The "Girls" series was written by Lena Dunham, who also stars in the show. Filmmakers Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner executive produced the show.
"Girls" is a comedy series about the "assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of three girlfriends," according to Deadline.com.
