HARRISON, N.Y. - Harrison High School students Ryan Grant and Cheyenne Sikora sat outside Ma Riis Park in downtown Harrison Tuesday fiddling with their Blackberry and LG cell phones. They both had a desire for something better.
"I can't wait to get rid of this one," Grant said.
Four days after the release of the iPhone 4S customers continued to line up at the White Plains Apple Store at The Westchester mall as nationwide sales of the product already reached more than 4 million.
Waits were as long as two hours for customers looking to purchase the phone without reservations, store employees said. A separate line for those who purchased reservations for the new phone waited as long as an hour.
"I would wait that long for a phone like that," Sikora said. "From what I've heard and seen, it's worth it."
The new iPhone 4S has been announced as an upgrade to its predecessor, the iPhone 4, with an improved internal camera and its most popular addition, the automated voice control function known as Siri.
Apple employees at the White Plains store provided a special cart outside the store full of bottled water to accommodate the long waits for the new product. Customers looking to browse the store without purchasing the new phone were still permitted inside, but did not avoid the crowd typically seen inside the White Plains location.
"The graphics are a lot better on that kind of phone," Grant said. "It's faster and easier to use."
