Ahn, a 35-year old Queens resident, was one of four victims of the train derailment that also killed Cortlandt resident James Ferrari. Sunshine, located at 15 Spring Valley Rd, is struggling to cope with her loss.

Ahn was a registered nurse who started working for Sunshine in 2010. She emigrated from South Korea along with other nurses via an international recruiting agency, administrator Linda Mosiello said. Ahn briefly left to become a licensed nurse practitioner before returning in 2012.

"She was a remarkable young woman," Mosiello said. "She was full of compassion and kindness. She was liked and adored by the staff and children."

Mosiello said the staff is having a difficult time with Ahn's death.

"We are a very small facility, everyone is very close," Mosiello said. "The nursing department is a very tight knit group. They cannot stop crying. It's very sad and tragic."

The staff held a private memorial service for Ahn on Monday.

"We wanted to allow the staff time for reflection and think about who she was and what she meant to everyone," Mosiello said. "The staff needed to come together and grieve."

Mosiello said Ahn's family just arrived from Korea and they are awaiting confirmation on their memorial plans. Mosiello has invited Ahn's family to visit Sunshine and see what Ahn meant to the facility.

"She was a wonderful person," Mosiello said.

Sunshine Children’s Home is a 54-bed licensed nursing facility that specializes in the care and treatment of medically complex children who require post acute, rehabilitative care.
