The 10 p.m. accident was at the corner of Highland Road and Highland Park Place.

Neighbors near the accident told News12 they did what they could to save the young man’s life after they heard the black Chrysler Sebring smash into the pole.

A good Samaritan reportedly ran out in bare feet to help the student driver.

"A neighbor who is an ER nurse just flew into action,” a woman who called herself Kate told News12. “Just everyone wanted to help.”

Harrison police are investigating whether speed or a mechanical problem caused the crash.
