Mahopac Homicide Investigation Turns To Westchester

Carmel police said the death of 75-year-old Mahopac woman on Thursday was not random and not a crime of opportunity and spent some time in Westchester this past weekend investigating the case, confiscating a vehicle in West Harrison.

Lt. John Dearman said all he could reveal at this time was the department doesn't believe the murder of Perla Gatchalian of Coventry Circle was a random act and no arrests have been made.

"We are actively investigating the homicide and developing information," Dearman added.

Gatchalian was found around 3:18 p.m. after the Carmel Police Department received a call from a concerned neighbor who not seen Gatchalian in a while, police said.

The department spent several hours on Saturday at a home in West Harrison owned by the Buffone family. The house was searched, and a car was towed from the residence, Dearman confirmed.

Gatchalian, who is part of the Buffone family, lived with another branch of the Buffone family in Mahopac, he added.

He could not reveal how the two families are connected.

State police, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Putnam District Attorney's Office are assisting the investigation.

The police department is asking that anyone who may have information to contact the Detective Division at 845-628-1300. All calls will be kept confidential.
