Harrison Budget Passes, Three New Board Members Elected

This story has been updated to include official vote tallies.

HARRISON, N.Y. – Voters passed the Harrison Schools $109.11 million budget Tuesday night and elected three new school board members, all of whom ran uncontested for three open seats, according to unofficial results.

With 1,811 ballots tallied, 74.65 percent voted in favor of the budget, which complies with the state-mandated tax cap. The district plans to increase the tax levy 3.42 percent and use $3.57 million in fund balance.

The tax rate will increase 3.51 percent to $732.73 per $1,000 of assessed value on a home, which is up $25.30 per $1,000 of assessed value from the current year.

The budget eliminates the elementary foreign language program for a savings of more than $400,000, but maintains class sizes and adds security personnel for after school and night activities at the middle and high schools. It also increases staffing to support course enrollment growth.

None of the incumbents with expiring terms ran for re-election. Newcomer Kelly Mulvoy Mangan received 1,038 votes, Robert Sullivan received 1,005 votes and Lindy Wolverton received 962 votes.
