PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Kayla Meenan received a surprise when she returned to her Manhattanville dorm room, Monday.
Meenan was told, by roommate and teammate Lindsay Stebenne, that she was named the Freedom Conference field hockey player of the week.
After Lindsay told me, then our two coaches texted me, said the junior forward from Pennsylvania. Then I called my parents.
Meenan scored four goals and assisted on three others as Manhattanville went 1-2 for the week. Meenan leads the team with 11 goals and is second on the team with 16 points. This is Meenans second conference field hockey player-of-the-week award. Meenan earned it opening week of her freshman year.
Lindsay told me she went on our website and the first thing she saw was the article, Meenan said. It made me feel really good to know that I am helping the team and that our team is having a very good season.
Manhattanville is currently 9-3 this season, led by the scoring of Meehan and Amanda DeChent, a Putnam Valley graduate.
Amanda and I have been working really well together with her in the center and me on right wing, Meenan said. We have that connection.
Meenan added that the team has come together this season. All of us have been brought together by Coach Kevin Kelly, she said. We also have a very good relationship off the field and this translates to the field also.
