Pitching Powers Purchase to Baseball Sweep

SILVER LAKE, N.Y. -- The Purchase College baseball team swept visiting St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn Sunday behind the right arms of starting pitchers Chris Carboni and Miller Lulow.

Carboni went the distance, tossing a five-hitter and striking four in a 3-1 win in game one. Lulow followed and scattered eight hits in the second game, an 8-3 win, at Silver Lake Park.

A Jay Ruiz run-scoring single in the fourth inning snapped a 1-1 tie. Kevin McQuade, a Rye Neck graduate, added the third run with an RBI double. Mark Donahue finished 3 for 3 with an RBI and went 2 for 3 with two runs scored in the second game.

In the second game, the score was tied at 2-2 in the fourth when Michael Sarni gave Purchase the lead for good with a single, scoring Colin Morris. McQuade would then single home Sarni. He had two hits in game two.

John Duffy capped the Purchase scoring with a two-run single.
